How Is ReadyPhonics Unique Compared to Other Programs?

True Literacy

Literacy is defined as the ability to read and write. Many phonics programs focus only on reading, using digital tools or workbooks students can't write in. ReadyPhonics is a true literacy program, systematically weaving reading, writing, and comprehension directly into every lesson.

Penmanship and Grammar

Student writing skills are falling through the cracks. Fine motor skills like penmanship are essential for student development. Our program reinforces writing and basic sentence structure from the beginning of phonics education, setting a child off strong with these essential skills.

A Colorful Approach

We use color strategically and purposefully. Research has found that strategic, minimal use of color increases student attention span and comprehension. We apply these science-backed findings by pairing sentences with simple, colorful imagery to enhance student learning.

Student Workbooks

We’re bringing back the student workbook. As education shifts toward disposable worksheets or fully digital programs, we believe students learn best when they have something of their own to write in, revisit, and build upon. We make workbooks affordable  making hands-on learning accessible again.

Simplicity is Key

Our program is uniquely simple, focusing on core skills and phonetic sounds without the fluff.  Young learners need clear expectations and short-form lessons to stay focused and succeed. We believe simplicity is key to helping students become confident readers quickly and efficiently.

Mission Driven

U.S. students are struggling to read, and the data is heartbreaking. The reading setbacks these children face affect them physically and emotionally. We're on a mission to help every child become strong a reader. When you join ReadyPhonics, you're not just joining a program, you're joining a mission.

FAQ

What age range is ReadyPhonics for?

ReadyPhonics is a Pre-K phonics and reading program that covers Preschool through 2nd grade, roughly ages 3 to 8. The Level 1 Alphabet Workbook starts with letter recognition and penmanship, the Level 2 Reader Workbook builds short vowels, CVC words, and reading comprehension, and the Level 3 Reader Workbook covers long vowels, phonics digraphs and blends, and sentence writing. Placement follows skill level, not age, so an older struggling reader can start wherever their foundational gaps begin.

What grade level does each book correspond to?

While the entire program can be completed straight through to take a child from the alphabet to independent reading, each workbook also maps to a grade level based on foundational reading standards. Preschool phonics instruction uses the Level 1 Alphabet Workbook, Kindergarten phonics uses the Level 2 Reader Workbook, and 1st grade phonics uses the Level 3 Reader Workbook.

How do I know which workbook to start my reader at?

Placement is based on skill, not age or grade. If your child struggles to recall letter sounds or write their letters, start with the Level 1 Alphabet Workbook. If they have already mastered their letters and sounds, start with the Level 2 Reader Workbook to build short vowel words and reading comprehension. If they have mastered short vowel words but struggle with long vowels or more complex phonemes like ch or sh, start with the Level 3 Reader Workbook to master those special phonics sounds and sentence writing.

How many lessons are in each workbook?

Each ReadyPhonics workbook delivers structured, systematic phonics lessons designed for daily practice:

  • Level 1 Alphabet Workbook: 4 pages per weekday, under 15 minutes a day, 28 lessons total.
  • Level 2 Reader Workbook: 3 pages per weekday, under 15 minutes a day, 33 lessons total, focused on CVC words and blending.
  • Level 3 Reader Workbook: 3 pages per weekday, under 15 minutes a day, 44 lessons total, covering digraphs, blends, and sentence writing.

Each book follows three to four consistent lesson structures, so once your child learns the routine, every structured literacy lesson feels familiar. At this pace, the complete phonics curriculum takes about 17 weeks. Results and lesson length may vary depending on the child's age, prior knowledge, and consistency of practice.

What's included in the price of this affordable phonics program?

Each workbook starts at $19.99, and the complete three book phonics curriculum is under $65 total, a one time purchase with no subscription and no recurring fees.  Additionally, we provide a wealth of free supplementary resources on our website under the free resources tab with a new resource added weekly!

Is ReadyPhonics based on the science of reading?

Yes! ReadyPhonics is a science of reading aligned phonics program built on the National Reading Panel's five pillars of literacy: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Instruction is systematic and explicit, sequenced from simple to complex, across all three structured literacy workbooks.

Can I teach my child to read at home without any teaching experience?

Yes. ReadyPhonics is a homeschool phonics curriculum designed so any parent can teach their child to read at home with confidence. Instructions are built into every lesson, so there's no separate teaching manual to study and no training required to get started.

Is this program suitable for students with learning disabilities?

Yes! This program is specifically designed to suit all learners, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning disabilities. Research shows that students with dyslexia and/or ADHD benefit from short, structured, systematic phonics instruction that builds decoding, reading fluency, and spelling skills, and this science-based approach is the backbone of our program. Whether your child needs extra support alongside school or is fully homeschooled, ReadyPhonics is the simplest science-based approach on the market to take your student from alphabet to independent reader.

Can I use ReadyPhonics as reading intervention for struggling readers?

Yes. The simplified, structured literacy format makes ReadyPhonics a strong fit for reading intervention with students who are behind grade level or who have learning disabilities, including dyslexia. Because placement follows skill level rather than age or grade, a struggling reader can start at the exact point their foundational phonics gaps begin.
