This Privacy Policy explains how ReadyPhonics (“ReadyPhonics,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit readyphonics.com (the “Site”) or interact with our free resources, email lists, contact forms, blog, and Educator Pilot Program.
Who We Are
ReadyPhonics is a literacy curriculum publisher based in Washington State. Our website address is https://readyphonics.com. We sell printed workbooks through Amazon and offer free supplementary resources, a companion digital app, an email newsletter, and an Educator Pilot Program for schools and teachers directly through this Site.
Information We Collect
a. Information You Give Us Directly
- Newsletter / free resource signups (Free Resources page, “first 5 lessons free” offer): name and email address, submitted through our email service provider.
- Contact form submissions: name, email address, and the content of your message, including bulk-pricing and school-pricing inquiries.
- Educator Pilot Program applications: educator name, email, school or classroom name, role/title, and a photo of your school-issued staff identification card, which we require to confirm you’re a current educator before approving your application.
- Blog comments: if you leave a comment on our blog, we collect the information shown in the comment form (name, email, and your comment), along with your IP address and browser user agent string, to help with spam detection. An anonymized version of your email address (a “hash”) may be shared with Gravatar to check whether you have a Gravatar account; Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. If your comment is approved, your name and, if you have one, your Gravatar profile picture will be publicly visible alongside your comment.
We do not currently offer visitor account registration on this Site (no public login/signup beyond the newsletter), so we do not collect or store user profile data of that kind.
b. Information Collected Automatically
When you browse the Site, we (and any analytics or advertising tools we use) may automatically collect:
- IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system
- Pages visited, time on page, referring website
- Cookies or similar technologies used for site functionality and analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate Site traffic and usage (for example, which pages are visited and how visitors found the Site). Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as IP address, browser type, device type, and pages viewed. You can learn more about Google’s practices at policies.google.com/privacy and opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We also use MailerLite to manage our email newsletter and free-resource signup forms (Section 2a), and RankMath for on-site SEO functionality. These tools may set cookies or collect basic technical information (like IP address) needed to operate. We do not currently use advertising trackers such as the Meta/Facebook Pixel.
c. Purchases
Individual workbook purchases are completed on Amazon.com, not on this Site. We do not collect or store your payment card information, shipping address, or Amazon order details for these orders. Your purchase is subject to Amazon’s own Privacy Notice. Printing or manufacturing defects are handled directly through Amazon’s return/replacement process. If you contact us instead about a workbook issue, we collect the photos you send of the affected pages and your contact information, used only to look into the issue and help resolve it.
Bulk and custom orders for teachers and schools are arranged directly with our team, typically after you contact us through this Site. For these orders, we collect the information needed to fulfill them, such as your name, school or organization name, shipping address, order quantity, and billing contact information. For payment, we invoice bulk and custom orders through QuickBooks, PayPal for Business, or accept payment by check, due upon receipt of invoice. We do not store your full payment card or bank account details ourselves; QuickBooks and PayPal process and store that information under their own privacy and security practices, and checks are handled through our bank’s standard deposit process. We use the information you provide only to process and fulfill your order and for related recordkeeping (for example, taxes and shipping records).
d. Digital Companion App
Our digital companion content is delivered through a web-based interactive tool (built on the Genially platform), accessed by scanning a QR code printed in the workbook itself. No account, login, or registration is required or offered. Anyone with the QR code can open the content directly in a browser, and we do not collect names, emails, or other personal information through it.
The Genially platform may use its own cookies or basic analytics (for example, anonymized usage counts) to operate and measure the tool. We do not receive any personally identifiable information from these interactions. If that ever changes, for example if we add accounts, logins, or individual progress tracking, this section and Section 6 below will be updated accordingly, and additional protections for child users would be put in place at that time.
How We Use Information
We use the information above to:
- Deliver the free lessons, resources, or newsletter content you signed up for
- Respond to inquiries, including bulk/school pricing requests
- Evaluate and administer Educator Pilot Program applications
- Improve the Site and understand how visitors use it
- Send occasional updates about new free resources, blog content, or offers (you can unsubscribe at any time)
- Detect and prevent spam, including in blog comments
We do not sell your personal information.
How We Share Information
We share information only with:
- Service providers who help us run the Site and email list, currently MailerLite (email/newsletter), Google Analytics (site analytics), RankMath (SEO functionality), and our website host. They’re permitted to use your data only to provide services to us.
- Amazon, only in the sense that clicking a “Shop on Amazon” link takes you to Amazon’s site, governed by Amazon’s own privacy practices. We don’t transmit your data to Amazon.
- Automated spam-detection services, if you leave a blog comment, to help identify spam.
- Legal requirements, if required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
Cookies
As described in Section 2b, we use cookies from Google Analytics and MailerLite to understand Site usage and manage our email signups. These cookies help us remember your preferences and understand aggregate site usage; we don’t currently use them for advertising or ad retargeting. You can control cookies through your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics specifically using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Disabling cookies may affect Site functionality (for example, newsletter signup forms).
If you leave a blog comment, you may opt in to having your name, email address, and website saved in a cookie for your convenience on future comments; these cookies last one year.
These cookie details relate to our website’s back-end login (used only by ReadyPhonics staff, not visitors) and are included here for completeness: a temporary cookie checks whether a browser accepts cookies and is discarded when the browser closes; login cookies last two days (or two weeks if “Remember Me” is selected) and are removed on logout; and a cookie noting which post was last edited expires after one day. None of these contain visitor personal data.
Embedded Content
Blog posts or pages on this Site may include embedded content (for example, videos, images, or articles from other websites). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you visited the other website directly. These other websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Children’s Privacy
ReadyPhonics’s curriculum is designed for children roughly ages 3 to 8, but the Site itself is directed at and operated by parents, teachers, and school staff, not children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 through this Site. All email signups, contact form submissions, and pilot program applications are completed by an adult.
This includes our digital companion tool (Section 2d): it does not require login or registration, and does not collect personal information from the children who use it via the in-workbook QR code.
If we learn that a child under 13 has provided us personal information directly without parental consent, we will delete it. Parents who believe their child has provided us information may contact us at team@readyphonics.com to request deletion.
Schools & the Educator Pilot Program
When a school or educator enrolls in the Educator Pilot Program, we collect the educator’s contact and verification information as described in Section 2a. We do not collect student names or other student education records as part of this program, and we do not intend to in the future.
Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide the services above (for example, as long as you’re subscribed to our list, or until your Educator Pilot Program period plus a reasonable record-keeping period ends), or as required by law. Staff ID images submitted for Educator Pilot Program verification are used only to confirm eligibility and are deleted once your application has been approved or denied, except where we need to retain a record of approval for program administration.
If you leave a blog comment, the comment and related metadata are retained indefinitely so that we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding every comment in a moderation queue.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or opt out of certain uses of your personal information (for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act or similar state laws). If you have left a comment on this Site or signed up for our newsletter, you can request an exported copy of the personal data we hold about you, and you can request that we erase it, except for data we’re required to retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes. To exercise these rights, contact us at team@readyphonics.com. You can unsubscribe from our email list at any time using the link in any email we send.
Data Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Third-Party Links
Our Site links to third-party sites (Amazon, NAEP, Common Core, research sources, etc.). We aren’t responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, so review their policies separately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We’ll post the revised version here with an updated “Last Updated” date.
