According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), only 30-31% of 4th and 8th-graders are reading at grade level. Our goal is to help schools simplify literacy education and close the gap to ensure every child is given the skills they need to become strong readers. Whether implemented as a core literacy curriculum or used one page at a time for targeted reading intervention, ReadyPhonics provides schools with a flexible solution designed to meet students where they are.
Scope and Sequence
Our program was designed to exceed Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and is the simple path to student mastery of each benchmark.
Pre-K: Level 1 Alphabet
Pre-K according to ELOF: Recognizes most uppercase and lowercase letters; understands that print carries meaning; identifies some letter sounds; enjoys books; recognizes rhymes; begins phonological awareness (syllables, beginning sounds); may recognize own name and a few environmental words.
Kindergarten: Level 2 Reader
Kindergarten according to CCSS: Knows all uppercase and lowercase letters; understands print concepts; demonstrates phonological awareness; knows letter-sound correspondences; reads common high-frequency (sight) words; decodes simple CVC words; reads emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
1st Grade: Level 3 Reader
First grade according to CCSS: Decodes one- and two-syllable words; applies phonics to unfamiliar words; reads grade-level text with accuracy; recognizes common spelling patterns; develops reading fluency; retells stories and answers comprehension questions.
Grades 2-6: Literacy Intervention
ReadyPhonics is designed to systematically cover all foundational literacy skills, equipping students for lasting literacy success. Thanks to its simplicity and accessibility, it’s the perfect resource for reading intervention for struggling students in grades 2 through 6.
